Visa Free Countries for Sri Lankan Passport Holders with UK BRP 2026

The complete and up-to-date guide for Sri Lankans living in the UK with an eVisa (formerly BRP). Find out exactly which countries you can visit without a visa, which need a Schengen visa, and how the BRP to eVisa transition affects your travel in 2026.

8+ Verified BRP-Benefit Countries eVisa Required Updated April 2026

If you hold a Sri Lankan passport and live in the UK with a valid eVisa (the digital replacement for the Biometric Residence Permit), you have access to a growing number of visa-free destinations. Your UK residence status opens additional doors beyond what your Sri Lankan passport provides alone, particularly in Europe and the Americas.

This guide is specifically written for Sri Lankans living in the United Kingdom. We cover every visa-free country available through both your UK eVisa and your Sri Lankan passport nationality, explain the Schengen visa rules, and provide practical guidance on the eVisa transition.

Since all BRPs expired on 31 December 2024 and the grace period ended on 1 June 2025, Sri Lankans with UK residence must now use the eVisa system. Before any international travel, ensure your Sri Lankan passport is linked to your eVisa through your UKVI online account.

The Sri Lankan community in the UK numbers approximately 150,000-200,000 people. Many hold Skilled Worker visas (particularly in healthcare and IT), Student visas, or have Indefinite Leave to Remain. This guide covers travel rights for all visa categories.

Practical Travel Tips for Sri Lankans in the UK

  1. Flying home to Sri Lanka: Direct or one-stop flights from London to Colombo (Bandaranaike International Airport) via Middle Eastern hubs (Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi) typically take 11-14 hours. SriLankan Airlines operates direct flights from Heathrow. You do not need a visa to return to Sri Lanka on your Sri Lankan passport, but you may need an ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation) depending on current policy.
  2. Maldives stopover: The Maldives offers visa-free entry to all nationalities and is a short flight from Colombo. A popular option for Sri Lankans combining a trip home with a beach holiday.
  3. Singapore stopover: Sri Lankan passport holders enjoy 30 days visa-free in Singapore. An excellent stopover on the way to or from Sri Lanka, with direct flights from both London and Colombo.
  4. BRP-benefit European travel: Albania and Serbia are excellent value destinations from the UK. Budget airlines fly to Tirana and Belgrade from London for under GBP 100 return.
  5. Travel insurance: Buy comprehensive cover for every trip. NHS does not cover you abroad. The GHIC card provides limited emergency cover in some EU countries only.
  6. Currency tip: Carry USD for destinations like Turkey (e-visa fee), Panama (funds requirement), and some visa-on-arrival countries. GBP or EUR are useful in European BRP-benefit countries.
